Royals Trade Blanton to Pirates

July 30, 2015

With their starting rotation improved with the acquisition of Johnny Cueto, yesterday the Royals traded veteran pitcher Joe Blanton to the Pittsburgh Pirates for cash considerations. The Pirates, who have been moving in closer in the standings to the Cardinals, earlier this week improved their infield with the acquisition of Aramis Ramirez.

Blanton, who was first drafted in 2002 by the Athletics, retired last April but then decided to return to major league baseball in February, 2015. In 15 games this season as both a starter and out of the Royals' bullpen, he has a 3.89 ERA with 2 wins to 2 losses and 2 saves. He has given up 43 hits, 19 runs, and 6 home runs in 41.2 innings.
