Trevor Cahill, relief pitcher, was first drafted in 2006 by the Oakland Athletics. He pitched in the Athletics' minor league system from 2006 through 2008.

Cahill joined the Athletics starting rotation in 2009. In his first season in the majors, he had 10 wins to 13 losses and a 4.63 ERA in 178.2 innings in 32 games. He had control issues, walking 72 batters while striking out only 90.

Cahill's best season as a starting pitcher was in 2010. He had a career high 18 wins (to 8 losses), 118 strikeouts to 63 walks, and a 2.97 ERA in 196.2 innings in 30 games. He didn't do as well in 2011, finishing with 12 wins to 14 losses and a 4.16 ERA in a career high 207.2 innings in 34 games.

The Athletics traded Cahill to the Arizona Diamondbacks on December 9, 2011. He continued as a starting pitcher in 2012 and 2013. He had a career high 156 strikeouts (to 74 walks), 13 wins to 12 losses, and a 3.78 ERA in 200.0 innings in 32 games in 2012. He spent time on the DL with a hip contusion in 2013 and finished with a 3.99 ERA in 26 games. In 2014, he transitioned to a relief pitcher, pitching in 17 games as a starter and 15 games in relief. He finished with a 5.61 ERA in 32 games.

On April 2, 2015, Cahill was traded to the Atlanta Braves. He was released on June 19th. He then signed a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 30th, but they released him on August 14th. Four days later, he signed a minor league contract with the Chicago Cubs. He finished the 2015 season with 1 win and 3 losses, 36 strikeouts to 16 walks, and a 5.40 ERA in 15 games with the Braves and 11 games with the Cubs.

In 2016, Cahill pitched in 49 games as a reliever and 1 game as a starting pitcher with the Cubs. He finished the season with a career low ERA of 2.74, 4 wins and 4 losses, and 66 strikeouts to 35 walks in 65.2 innings. He didn't pitch in the postseason.

Cahill became a free agent on November 3, 2016. He signed with the San Diego Padres on January 20, 2017. He was traded to the Kansas City Royals on July 24, 2017. He finished the 2017 season with 4 wins and 3 losses, 87 strikeouts to 45 walks, and a 4.93 ERA in 84.0 innings in 11 games as a starter with the Padres and 3 games as a starter and 7 games of relief with the Royals.

Cahill elected free agency on November 2, 2017. He signed with the Athletics on March 19, 2018. He spent time on the DL in 2018. He finished the season with 7 wins and 4 losses, 100 strikeouts to 41 walks, and a 3.76 ERA in 110.0 innings in 21 games.

Cahill became a free agent on October 29, 2018. He signed with the Los Angeles Angels on December 20, 2018. He spent time on the DL in 2019 with right elbow inflammation. He finished the season with 4 wins and 9 losses, 81 strikeouts to 39 walks, and a 5.98 ERA in 102.1 innings in 37 games.

Cahill became a free agent on October 31, 2019. He signed a minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants on February 11, 2020. He pitched in 11 games in 2020, and he finished the season with 1 win and 2 losses, 31 strikeouts to 14 walks, and a 3.24 ERA in 25.0 innings.

Cahill elected free agency on October 28, 2020. He signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates on March 12, 2021. He spent time on the IL in 2021 with a calf strain. He finished the season with 1 win and 5 losses and a 6.57 ERA in 37.0 innings in 9 games.

Cahill became a free agent on November 3, 2021. He signed a minor league contract with the New York Mets on May 19, 2022, and he was released on August 5th.
