Dale Sveum

Date of Birth: 11/23/1963
Birthplace: Richmond, California

Dale Sveum was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in 1982. Four years later, he started a 12 year major league career as a player. He played for the Brewers for five years, missing the 1989 season due to injuries. From 1992 through 1999, Sveum played for 6 teams, playing only for the Pittsburgh Pirates for more than one year. After 12 years, Sveum had played in 862 games and had 597 hits, 125 of which were doubles, and he batted .236.

In 2001, just two years after his last season as a player, Sveum became a minor league manager. He stayed in that position until 2004, when he moved back to the majors as the third base coach for the Boston Red Sox. After two years with the Red Sox, Sveum left to become a coach for his old team, the Milwaukee Brewers. In 2008, he became the interim manager for the Brewers, managing for just 12 games. He then returned to his coaching position, which he kept until 2011.

In 2012, Sveum had his first outing as a major league manager. This first year was a poor one, with the Cubs losing 101 games and winning only 61, with a .377 win percentage and a fifth place finish in the NL Central division. He was fired on September 30, 2013.

Sveum was hired by the Kansas City Royals as a coach in October, 2013. He started as their third base coach in 2014 and was moved to the hitting coach position on May 29, 2014.

Sveum was the bench coach for the Royals for the 2019 season.
