Ron Roenicke

Date of Birth: 8/19/1956
Birthplace: Covina, California
College: UCLA

Ron Roenicke was drafted by five teams before he finally agreed to join the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1977. The Dodgers kept him in the minors until 1981 and after he played for them for less than three years, they released him. From 1983 through 1988, Roenicke played for five teams, playing in over 100 games in only three of those eight seasons. In 8 years in the majors, Roenicke played in 527 games and had 256 hits and a batting average of .238.

Four years after retiring as a player, Roenicke returned to the Dodgers as a coach but he only stayed with them for two seasons (1992-1993). He had his first chance to manage in 1994, moving from the Dodgers to a minor league team. He managed for two years, became a minor league instructor in 1996, and then returned to managing from 1997 through 1999.

Roenicke returned to the majors in 2000, signing on as a coach for the Los Angeles Angels. This became his longest held position, as he remained there through 2010.

In 2011, Roenicke joined the Milwaukee Brewers as their manager. His first year was successful, leading the Brewers to a NL Central division title and a win in the NL division series. That year the Brewers had a 96-66 record with a .593 win percentage. The 2012 season was not as good with a record of 83-79, a win percentage of .512, and a third place finish in the NL Central division. The 2013 season was even worse, with the Brewers ending in fourth place in the National League Central division, with a 74-88 win-loss record.

Roenicke led the Brewers to a winning season again in 2014. The team finished in third place in the NL Central division with an 82-80 record.

After a dismal start to the 2015 season of 7 wins to 18 losses, Roenicke was fired on May 3rd. In his years as manager of the Brewers, Roenicke led the team to 342 wins to 331 losses.

On August 17, 2015, Roenicke was hired as the third base coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers. He left the Dodgers on November 18th to join the Los Angeles Angels as their third base coach. He coached for the Angels in 2016 and 2017.

Roenicke was hired as the interim manager for the Red Sox on February 11, 2020. He was released as manager at the end of the shortened 2020 season. In his one season in Boston, he led the team to 24 wins and 36 losses. He was replaced by Alex Cora for the 2021 season.

Roenicke was a special assistant to the Los Angeles Dodgers' general manager in 2021.
