"Empress of the Deep: The Darkest Secret" is an underwater combination adventure and hidden object game. Your goal is to help Anna discover the secret of her past. The game starts with a brief spoken and written section that introduces you to Anna and her story. She wakes up in a crypt with amnesia and meets Jacob who becomes her guide through the first part of the game. Jacob gives Anna a journal that lets you follow the story as you play the game. The journal also includes a map to help you navigate through the game and some clues to the tasks you need to accomplish. The hidden object scenes are mostly junk pile scenes. They are relatively easy in the beginning but it gets harder to find objects as you go through the game. Fortunately, there are quick recharging hints available to help you. The game is mostly adventure and hidden object with very few puzzles. Most of the puzzles at the beginning of the game are very easy. All puzzles can be skipped after you get instructions using the hint button. As you move through different locations, you have to locate and collect orbs. Once you have completed all hidden object scenes, puzzles and exploration of a location, the area will have a completed sign.
"Empress of the Deep: The Darkest Secret" is a good game that has excellent graphics and animation, which add to the enjoyment of the game. The end of the game can be tedious because you have to revisit many of the places in the game. Unfortunately, instead of being able to use the map to jump to places, you need to physically navigate back and forth through the scenes. However, the hints help considerably in this part of the game. The game's strengths include bright, sharp and colorful graphics, plenty of areas to explore, different tasks for each chapter for plenty of variety, and good hints for exploring areas. It is a relatively easy game of medium length so it is a good game for beginning and intermediate level game players. It might be too easy or tedious for more advanced players. One weakness of the game is the terrible acting, especially of Anna. However, the spoken dialogue scenes can be skipped.
