SynopsisDVDCast

The songs in the movie "The Pajama Game" were first written in 1954 for the Broadway play. Several of the songs became popular hits, including "Hey There" and "Steam Heat." Many of the songs in "The Pajama Game" are lively numbers accompanied by energetic dances.

Hey There

Sid realizes that he is hooked on Babe and he tells himself, "Hey There," you with the stars in your eyes, you've never been in love before but Babe has captured your heart.

"Hey There" is certainly the most beautiful song from "The Pajama Game" and it is sung in the movie by John Raitt. In 1954, "Hey There" became a number one hit for Rosemary Clooney. That same year it was also a hit for Sammy Davis Jr. In later years, it was recorded by other artists, such as Peggy Lee (1960), Sarah Vaughn (1963) and, more recently, Harry Connick Jr. (2006).

Steam Heat

Gladys performs a song and dance number, "Steam Heat," at the factory workers' union meeting.

Patti Page recorded "Steam Heat" in 1954 and it reached a high of number eight on the popular charts and it stayed on the charts for nine weeks.

Hernando's Hideaway

Sid wants to take Gladys out so he can get the key to the boss' books, so Gladys suggests they go to a dark and special place called, "Hernando's Hideaway."

"Hernando's Hideaway" has probably been recorded more times than any of the other songs in "The Pajama Game." The song is based on a real place in Dubuque, Iowa. According to information from the original book that the play was based on, Hernando's Hideaway is on top of a high cliff in Dubuque. The song has been recorded by rock artists such as The Everly Brothers (1961) and jazz artists, such as Ella Fitzgerald (1962) and Harry Connick Jr. (2006). There is even a Finnish version of the song.
