Freddie Lindstrom was a top baseball player in high school. The New York Giants signed him in June, 1922, at the age of just 16. He spent the 1922 and 1923 seasons in the minors.
New York Giants
In 1924, Lindstrom was with the Giants, playing in 52 games with them that season. The following year, his first full season in the major leagues, he batted .287 with 102 hits and 15 doubles in 104 games.
Lindstrom played in 140 games in 1926, and he batted .302 with 164 hits, 19 doubles, and 76 RBIs. His numbers were even better in 1927, when he batted .306 with 172 hits and 36 doubles in 138 games.
Lindstrom had a very strong season in 1928, batting .358 in a career high 153 games. He led the National League in hits that season with a career high of 231. He also had 39 doubles, 14 home runs, and a career high 107 RBIs. He also played well defensively, leading all NL third basemen in assists with 340.
Lindstrom batted .319 in 130 games in 1929. He had 175 hits, 23 doubles, 15 home runs, and 91 RBIs. The following season was another very strong one for him. In 1930, he had his best season with career highs in hits with 231, doubles with 39, home runs with 22, and a career high batting average of .379 in 148 games.
Lindstrom played in just 78 games in 1931. The next year, he played again in a full season of 144 games. He had 161 hits, 26 doubles, 15 home runs, 92 RBIs, and a .271 batting average in 1932.
Pittsburgh Pirates
Although Lindstrom played well for the Giants, they traded him at the end of the 1932 season to the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 1933 he batted .310 with 157 hits, 39 doubles, and 55 RBIs in 138 games. He played in just 97 games in 1934, and he batted .290 with 111 hits.
Final Years as a Player
The Pirates traded Lindstrom to the Chicago Cubs after the 1934 season. In his one season as a Cub, he batted .275 with 94 hits, 22 doubles, and 62 RBIs in 90 games.
Lindstrom went to the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1936, his last season in the major leagues. He played in just 26 games that year.
