Christopher Plummer(1929-)
Christopher Plummer is a prolific stage, film and TV actor who is still an active actor at age 80. He was born in Toronto in 1929 and he studied piano as a child. He started acting while in high school and soon afterwards started his professional acting career in Montreal.
Plummer began a successful Broadway career in 1954. He has appeared in 16 Broadway plays over 52 years and has earned two Tony awards and 7 Tony nominations. His first win was in 1974 for the musical "Cyrano" and the second one came 23 years later, in 1997, for his performance in "Barrymore."
While continuing his theater career, both on Broadway and in London, Plummer also appeared in plays on television. His long career on television in plays, movies and series has earned Plummer 6 Emmy nominations and 2 Emmy awards.
In 1958, Plummer had his movie debut in "Stage Struck." Since then, he has acted in over 80 films. Although Plummer has had a successful and prolific film career, surprisingly, he has never been nominated for an Academy Award.
Plummer's performance in "The Sound of Music" was not one of his best but the part of Captain von Trapp in the film version is fairly small and less important than it was in the original play. Although Plummer received a Tony award for his performance in a musical, his singing was dubbed in the film version of "The Sound of Music."
