My Review:

"An American in Paris" has been enhanced for DVD and the picture quality of the film is excellent, with sharp, bright colors. The sound quality could be slightly louder and clearer.

The movie has a weak, cliche story line, but the dancing makes the film worth watching many times over. The choreography displays the versatility of Gene Kelly with sequences that highlight ballet, tap and more modern styles. The first number displays Leslie Caron's talent as a ballet dancer, while the later numbers let Gene Kelly display his enormous talent and range as a dancer.

Gene Kelly dances in his trademark white socks and loafers and T-shirt or sweatshirt and he makes the dancing seem easy. The 1:33 aspect ratio is perfect for watching Gene Kelly's footwork, especially in the "I've Got Rhythm" number, where he dances with a group of children. The finale combines a variety of dance forms in one 12 minute number of just music and dance that symbolizes the love story between Jerry and Lise.
