My Review:
The enhanced DVD of "Hello Dolly" has clear, sharp video with bright, natural colors. The sound volume is loud and the sound is clear. The widescreen aspect is good for the big production dance numbers, such as "Put on Your Sunday Clothes."
The film is well directed by Gene Kelly and, although Kelly was one of the greatest choreographers, he left that job to Michael Kidd who has his own unique style that is apparent in the entertaining acrobatic dance numbers in "Hello Dolly."
The movie opens in a way that captures the audience's attention - it begins with a scene of feet walking and dancing, followed by the introduction of Dolly Levi, accompanied by music and song. This is then followed by the overture and a scene of a train moving from New York to Yonkers.
The one downside for me of the movie version of "Hello Dolly" is the performance of Barbra Streisand. She was far too young for the role and she played it as if she were still playing Fanny Brice. Her singing was, of course, excellent, but in some dialog scenes, she spoke so quickly that it is difficult to understand what she said.
