Alejandro De Aza, outfielder, signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2001 and he played in their minor league system from 2002 through 2004. He was then drafted by the Miami Marlins and continued to play in the minor leagues through 2006.
De Aza came up to the major leagues in 2007 but an ankle fracture and surgery limited his playing time to just 45 games with the Marlins. He didn't play at all in 2008 and he spent most of the 2009 season in the minor leagues, playing in just 22 games with the Marlins.
The Chicago White Sox claimed De Aza off waivers in October, 2009. He spent most of the 2010 and 2011 seasons in the minor leagues, playing in just 19 games with the White Sox in 2010 and 54 games in 2011.
In 2012, his first full season in the major leagues, De Aza batted .281 with 147 hits, 29 doubles, and 26 stolen bases in 131 games. He signed a one-year contract with the White Sox in January, 2013. In 2013, he batted .264 with 160 hits, 27 doubles, 17 home runs, 62 RBIs, and 20 stolen bases in 153 games. He played 107 games in center field and 79 games in left field.
On August 30, 2014, De Aza was traded to the Baltimore Orioles. He finished the 2014 season with 120 hits, 24 doubles, 17 stolen bases, and a .252 batting average in 122 games with the White Sox and 20 games with the Orioles. In the postseason, he had 7 hits, 3 doubles, 3 RBIs, and a .333 batting average in 21 at-bats in 6 games.
De Aza was traded to the Boston Red Sox on June 3, 2015. Three months later, he was traded to the San Francisco Giants on August 31st. He finished the season with 85 hits, 17 doubles, and a .262 batting average in 30 games with the Orioles, 60 games with the Red Sox, and 24 games with the Giants. Defensively, he played 69 games in left field, 1 game in center field, and 37 games in right field.
On December 23, 2015, De Aza signed a one-year, $5.75 million contract with the New York Mets. He played in 130 games with the Mets in 2016, batting .205 with 48 hits. Defensively, he played 22 games in left field, 46 games in center field, and 14 games in right field. He made 106 putouts and 2 errors.
De Aza became a free agent on November 3, 2016. He signed a minor league contract with the Oakland Athletics on January 20, 2017. He was released by the Athletics on March 27th.
De Aza signed a minor league contract with the Washington Nationals on June 14, 2017. He spent time in the minor leagues in 2017, playing in just 28 games with the Nationals.
De Aza became a free agent on November 2, 2017. He signed again with the Nationals on March 2, 2018. The Nationals released him on August 8, 2018. He played only in the minors in 2018.
De Aza signed a minor league contract with the Minnesota Twins on July 17, 2019. He spent the 2019 season in the minors.
De Aza became a free agent on November 4, 2019. He didn't play professional baseball in 2020.
De Aza played in the independent Atlantic League in 2021. He also played in the Venezuelan Winter League and in the Caribbean Series.
