Alex Cobb, starting pitcher for the San Francisco Giants, started his professional baseball career in the minor leagues in 2006, after being drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays. He continued playing in the minors through most of 2011 and part of 2012, finishing with a 35-29 win-loss record in 114 games.

Cobb pitched in nine games with the Rays in 2011 and he finished the season with a 3.42 ERA and a 3-2 record. In 2012, he was part of the Rays starting rotation and he pitched 136.1 innings in 23 games. He finished the 2012 season with an 11-9 record and a 4.03 ERA.

In 2013, Cobb missed two months of the season after being hit in the head by a line drive on June 15th. He pitched 143.1 innings in 22 games and he finished the season with an 11-3 record, 134 strikeouts to 45 walks, and a 2.76 ERA. In 2014, he pitched 166.1 innings in 27 games and he had a 10-9 record with 149 strikeouts to 47 walks and a 2.87 ERA.

Cobb had Tommy John surgery in the beginning of May, 2015. He missed all of the 2015 season and all but five games in 2016.

Cobb had a good comeback from TJ surgery in 2017. He finished the season with a 3.66 ERA, a career high 12 wins to 10 losses, and 128 strikeouts to 44 walks in 179.1 innings in 29 games.

Cobb became a free agent on November 2, 2017. He signed with the Baltimore Orioles on March 21, 2018. He finished the 2018 season with 5 wins and 15 losses, 102 strikeouts to 43 walks, and a 4.90 ERA in 152.1 innings in 28 games.

Cobb had hip surgery on June 10, 2019, and he spent most of the 2019 season on the DL. He played in just 3 games with the Orioles and he pitched 12.1 innings in those games.

Cobb pitched in 10 games in 2020. He finished the season with 2 wins and 5 losses, 38 strikeouts to 18 walks, and a 4.30 ERA in 52.1 innings.

Cobb was traded to the Los Angels Angels on February 2, 2021. He spent time on the IL in 2021 with a finger blister and right wrist inflammation. He finished the season with 8 wins and 3 losses, 98 strikeouts to 33 walks, and a 3.76 ERA in 93.1 innings in 18 games.

Cobb became a free agent on November 3, 2021. He signed with the Giants on November 30th.
