Andrew Cashner, starting pitcher for the Texas Rangers, was first drafted in 2008 by the Chicago Cubs. He pitched in the Cubs' minor league system in 2008 and 2009.
In 2010, Cashner joined the Cubs as a relief pitcher, playing in 53 games and finishing the season with a 2-6 record and a 4.80 ERA. He spent most of the following season on the DL, pitching in one game with the Cubs as a starting pitcher and in six games as a reliever.
The Cubs traded Cashner to the San Diego Padres in January, 2012. He pitched in 27 games as a relief pitcher and in 6 games as a starting pitcher with the Padres in 2012. He finished the season with a 3-4 record and a 4.27 ERA.
