Bryan Holaday, catcher, was a top player in college before being drafted by the Detroit Tigers in 2010. That year, he won the Johnny Bench award as the top collegiate catcher of 2010.
Holaday played in the Tigers' minor league system from 2010 through 2013, finishing with 250 hits, 56 doubles, 103 RBIs, and a .243 batting average in 294 games. He joined the Tigers in 2012 for six games and for 16 games in 2013.
Holaday finished the 2014 season with 36 hits, 37 strikeouts to 8 walks, and a .231 batting average in 62 games. Defensively, as a catcher, he made 23 assists, 333 putouts, and 7 errors in 58 games. He caught players trying to steal 29.8% of the time and he had a fielding percentage of .981. He played in just one postseason game and had no hits.
Holaday played in just 24 games with the Tigers in 2015. He also played in 49 games in the minors.
Holaday was traded to the Texas Rangers on March 29, 2016. The Boston Red Sox claimed him off waivers on August 5, 2016. He finished the season with 27 hits and a .231 batting average in 30 games with the Rangers and 14 games with the Red Sox. He didn't play in the postseason.
Holaday became a free agent on December 2, 2016. He signed a minor league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies on December 20, 2016. He returned to the Tigers on a minor league contract on March 31, 2017. He spent most of the 2017 season in the minors, playing in just 13 games with the Tigers.
