Cameron Maybin was a star player in high school before being drafted by the Detroit Tigers in 2005. He played in the Tigers' minor league system from 2006 through most of 2007. He was just 20 years old in 2007 when he joined the Tigers for 24 games.

The Tigers traded Maybin to the Miami Marlins in December, 2007. From 2008 through half of 2010, he played in the Marlins' minor league system. He joined the Marlins for 8 games in 2008, 54 games in 2009, and 82 games in 2010.

After the 2010 season ended, Maybin was traded to the San Diego Padres. In 2011, his first full season in the major leagues, he batted .264 with 136 hits, 24 doubles, and 40 stolen bases in 137 games.

In March, 2012, Maybin signed a five-year, $25 million contract with the Padres. That season, he batted .243 with 123 hits and 26 stolen bases in 147 games. In 2013, he was injured and spent most of the season on the DL, playing in just 14 games with the Padres. He was again injured in Spring training in 2014 and he started the season on the DL. He finished the season with 59 hits, 13 doubles, and a .235 batting average in 95 games.

Maybin was traded to the Atlanta Braves on April 5, 2015. He finished the 2015 season with a .267 batting average, 135 hits, 18 doubles, 23 stolen bases, and 59 RBIs in 141 games. As a center fielder, he made 331 putouts and 3 errors in 139 games. He had a .991 fielding percentage.

Maybin was traded to the Detroit Tigers on November 20, 2015. He played in 94 games with the Tigers in 2016 and he finished the season with 110 hits, 14 doubles, 15 stolen bases, 43 RBIs, and a .315 batting average. Defensively, as a center fielder in 91 games, he made 223 putouts and 4 errors.

The Tigers traded Maybin to the Los Angeles Angels on November 3, 2016. He was claimed off waivers by the Houston Astros on August 31, 2017. He finished the 2017 season with 90 hits, 20 doubles, 10 home runs, 33 stolen bases, 35 RBIs, 94 strikeouts to 51 walks, and a .228 batting average in 93 games with the Angels and 21 games with the Astros. Defensively, he played 50 games in left field, 57 games in center field, and 10 games in right field. In the postseason, he had 2 hits in 7 at-bats in 6 games.

Maybin elected free agency on November 2, 2017. He returned to the Marlins on February 21, 2018. He was traded to the Seattle Mariners on July 31, 2018. He finished the 2018 season with 85 hits and a .249 batting average in 99 games with the Marlins and 30 games with the Mariners. Defensively, he played 56 games in left field, 50 games in center field, and 24 games in right field.

Maybin became a free agent on October 29, 2018. He signed a minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants on February 18, 2019. He was released on March 22nd. He signed with the Cleveland Indians on March 29th. He was traded to the New York Yankees on April 25th.

Maybin spent part of the 2019 season on the DL with a left calf strain. He finished the season with 68 hits, 17 doubles, and a .285 batting average in 82 games with the Yankees. Defensively, he played 46 games in left field, 3 games in center field, and 36 games in right field. In the postseason, he had 2 hits, including a home run, 2 stolen bases, 1 RBI, 4 strikeouts to 1 walk, and a .333 batting average in 6 at-bats in 5 games.

Maybin became a free agent on October 31, 2019. He returned to his first team, the Tigers, on February 12, 2020. He was traded to the Chicago Cubs on August 31st. He finished the 2020 season with 23 hits, 8 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run, 7 RBIs, 25 strikeouts to 7 walks, and a .247 batting average in 14 games with the Tigers and 18 games with the Cubs. Defensively, he played 5 games in left field, 4 games in center field, and 19 games in right field. In the postseason, he had no hits in two at-bats in two games.

Maybin elected free agency on October 28, 2020. He rejoined the Cubs on a minor league contract on February 25, 2021. He was traded to the New York Mets on May 18th. He played in just nine games with the Mets in 2021. He also played in 22 games in the minors.

Maybin became a free agent on October 4, 2021. He retired on January 3, 2022.

Maybin signed on as a New York Yankees color commentator for the 2022 season. He also works as an MLB Network contributor.
