Chris Archer, starting pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays, was first drafted in 2006 by the Cleveland Indians. He played in their minor league system for two years before they traded him to the Chicago Cubs in December, 2008. He then played in the Cubs' minor league system in 2009 and 2010.

The Cubs traded Archer to the Rays in January, 2011. After almost two years in the Rays' minor league system, he finally made in to the major leagues in 2012, pitching 29.1 innings in 6 games. He pitched 128.2 innings in 23 games with the Rays in 2013 and he finished the season with a 9-7 record, 101 strikeouts to 38 walks, and a 3.22 ERA. He finished the 2014 season with 194.2 innings pitched in 32 games and he had a 10-9 record with 173 strikeouts to 72 walks and a 3.33 ERA.

Archer pitched in 34 games with the Rays in 2015. He finished the season with a 12-13 record, 252 strikeouts to 66 walks, and a 3.23 ERA in 212.0 innings.

Archer finished the 2016 season with 9 wins to 19 losses, 233 strikeouts to 67 walks, and a 4.02 ERA in 201.1 innings in 33 games.

In 2017, Archer had a 4.07 ERA in 34 games with the Rays. He had 10 wins to 12 losses and 249 strikeouts to 60 walks in 201.0 innings.
