Chris Archer, starting pitcher, was first drafted in 2006 by the Cleveland Indians. He played in their minor league system for two years before they traded him to the Chicago Cubs in December, 2008. He then played in the Cubs' minor league system in 2009 and 2010.

The Cubs traded Archer to the Tampa Bay Rays in January, 2011. After almost two years in the Rays' minor league system, he finally made in to the major leagues in 2012, pitching 29.1 innings in 6 games. He pitched 128.2 innings in 23 games with the Rays in 2013 and he finished the season with a 9-7 record, 101 strikeouts to 38 walks, and a 3.22 ERA. He finished the 2014 season with 194.2 innings pitched in 32 games and he had a 10-9 record with 173 strikeouts to 72 walks and a 3.33 ERA.

Archer pitched in 34 games with the Rays in 2015. He finished the season with a 12-13 record, 252 strikeouts to 66 walks, and a 3.23 ERA in 212.0 innings.

Archer finished the 2016 season with 9 wins to 19 losses, 233 strikeouts to 67 walks, and a 4.02 ERA in 201.1 innings in 33 games.

In 2017, Archer had a 4.07 ERA in 34 games with the Rays. He had 10 wins to 12 losses and 249 strikeouts to 60 walks in 201.0 innings.

The Rays traded Archer to the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 31, 2018. He finished the season with 6 wins and 8 losses, 162 strikeouts to 49 walks, and a 4.31 ERA in 17 games with the Rays and 10 games with the Pirates.

Archer spent time on the DL in 2019 with thumb inflammation and with shoulder inflammation. He finished the season with 3 wins and 9 losses, 143 strikeouts to 55 walks, and a 5.19 ERA in 119.2 innings in 23 games.

Archer didn't play professional baseball in 2020. He became a free agent on October 31, 2020. He returned to the Rays when he signed with them on February 9, 2021. He spent time on the IL in 2021 wtih forearm tightness and with hip discomfort. He pitched in just six games in 2021. He didn't pitch in the postseason.

Archer became a free agent on November 3, 2021. He signed with the Minnesota Twins on March 28, 2022.

Archer became a free agent on November 7, 2022.
