Chris Gimenez, retired catcher, was first drafted by the Colorado Rockies in 2001 but he opted instead for college. Three years later, he was drafted by the Cleveland Indians. He played in the Indians' minor league system from 2004 through most of 2010, playing in 45 games with the Indians in 2009 and 28 games in 2010.
In December, 2010, Gimenez signed a minor league contract with the Seattle Mariners. He played in just 24 games with the Mariners in 2011.
Gimenez signed a minor league contract with the Tampa Bay Rays in February, 2012. He played in 42 games with the Rays in 2012, finishing the season with 26 hits and a .260 batting average. He spent most of last season in the minors, playing in just four games with the Rays.
Gimenez was claimed off waivers by the Oakland Athletics in December, 2013. Three months later, he was claimed off waivers by the Texas Rangers. He signed a minor league contract with the Rangers in April, 2014 but they designated him for assignment on August 7, 2014. The Cleveland Indians acquired him in a trade on August 23rd. He finished the 2014 season with 28 hits, 10 doubles, and a .241 batting average in 34 games with the Rangers and 8 games with the Indians.
On November 20, 2014, Gimenez returned to the Rangers on a minor league contract. He split his time in 2015 between the minor leagues (69 games) and the Rangers (36 games). In the postseason, he had 2 hits in 8 at-bats in 2 games.
Gimenez returned to the Indians on May 4, 2016, when he was traded to Cleveland by the Rangers. He played in 68 games with the Indians and he had a .216 batting average and 30 hits. He didn't play in the postseason.
Gimenez became a free agent on November 21, 2016. He signed a minor league contract with the Minnesota Twins on January 12, 2017. He batted .220 with 41 hits in 77 games in 2017. As the Twins' catcher in 59 games, he made 26 assists, 418 putouts, and 1 error. He caught players trying to steal 30.2% of the time.
Gimenez elected free agency on November 6, 2017. He signed a minor league contract with the Chicago Cubs on January 22, 2018. He returned to the Twins in a trade on August 30, 2018. He spent most of the 2018 season in the minors, playing just 12 games with the Cubs and 13 games with the Twins.
Gimenez became a free agent on October 29, 2018. He retired the following month. He was a coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2019.
