Darwin Barney, infielder, was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 2007. He played in the minor leagues from 2007 through most of 2010, when he was called up to the Cubs for 30 games.

In 2011, his first full season in the major leagues, Barney batted .276 with 146 hits and 23 doubles in 143 games. Last year, he batted just .208 with 104 hits and 25 doubles in 141 games.

Barney won a Gold Glove award for his defensive skills at second base in 2012. He played in 155 games and he made 418 assists, 311 putouts, 96 double plays, and 2 errors with a .997 fielding percentage.

On July 22, 2014, Barney was designated for assignment. Six days later, he was acquired by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He finished the 2014 season with 57 hits and a .241 batting average in 72 games with the Cubs and 22 games with the Dodgers. He didn't play in the postseason with the Dodgers.

Barney spent most of the 2015 season in the minors. He played in just two games with the Dodgers before they designated him for assignment on June 12th. He was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays on September 13th. He then played in 15 games with Toronto.

Barney signed a one-year, $1.05 million contract with the Blue Jays on December 11, 2015. He played in 104 games with the Blue Jays in 2016. He finished the season with a .269 batting average, 75 hits, and 13 doubles. Defensively, he played 40 games at second base, 32 games at third base, 25 games at shortstop, and 5 games in left field. He also pitched in one game. In the postseason, he batted just .067 with 1 hit in 15 at-bats in 7 games.

In 129 games in 2017, Barney batted .232 with 78 hits, 14 doubles, 25 RBIs, and 64 strikeouts to 18 walks. Defensively, he played 73 games at second base, 44 games at third base, 10 games at shortstop, and 4 games in left field.

Barney elected free agency on November 2, 2017. He signed a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers on February 5, 2018. He was released on March 19th. He didn't play professional baseball in 2018 and 2019.

Barney was a minor league manager for the Texas Rangers in 2020.
