Doug Fister, retired starting pitcher, started playing baseball at the age of six. In 2004, he was drafted by the San Francisco Giants but he opted instead to stay in college. A year later, he was drafted by the New York Yankees but he again opted to stay in college. After he finished college in 2006, he was drafted by the Seattle Mariners and this time, he signed with the team.

After almost four years in the minor leagues, Fister was called up to the Mariners in 2009. He pitched in 61.0 innings in 12 games with the Mariners that season. The following year, Fister had his first full season in the major leagues, pitching 171.0 innings in 28 games. He finished the 2010 season with a 6-14 record and a 4.11 ERA.

The Mariners traded Fister to the Detroit Tigers at the end of July, 2011. He finished that season with 216.1 innings pitched, an 11-13 record, and a 2.83 ERA in 21 games with the Mariners and 11 games with the Tigers.

In 2013, Fister pitched 208.2 innings in 33 games with the Tigers. He finished the season with a 14-9 record, 159 strikeouts to 44 walks, and a 3.67 ERA.

In December, 2013, the Tigers traded Fister to the Washington Nationals. He finished the 2014 season with a 16-6 record, 98 strikeouts to 24 walks, and a 2.41 ERA in 164.0 innings in 25 games. He pitched 7.0 innings in one game in the postseason and he gave up 4 hits and no runs.

Fister pitched in 25 games with the Nationals in 2015. He finished the season with a 5-7 record, 1 save, 63 strikeouts to 24 walks, and a 4.19 ERA in 103.0 innings.

Fister signed a one year contract with the Houston Astros on January 28, 2016. He finished the 2016 season with a 4.64 ERA, 12 wins to 13 losses, and 115 strikeouts to 62 walks in 180.0 innings in 32 games.

Fister became a free agent on November 3, 2016. The Los Angeles Angels signed him on May 20, 2017. He was released by the Angels on June 21st, and the Boston Red Sox claimed him off waivers two days later. He pitched in 18 games with the Red Sox, finishing the 2017 season with a career high ERA of 4.88, 5 wins and 9 losses, and 83 strikeouts to 38 walks in 90.1 innings. In the postseason, he pitched 1.1 innings as a starter in one game and he gave up 4 hits, including a home run, and 3 runs. He struck out one batter and walked one.

Fister became a free agent on November 2, 2017. He signed with the Texas Rangers on November 28th. He spent time on the DL in 2018 with a hip strain and a knee strain. In 66.0 innings in 12 games, he had 1 win and 7 losses, 40 strikeouts to 19 walks, and a 4.50 ERA.

Fister elected free agency on November 2, 2018. He retired in February, 2019.
