Henderson Alvarez, pitcher, started his professional baseball career in the minor leagues in 2007. A year later, he signed a contract with the Toronto Blue Jays. He continued to play in the minor leagues until August, 2011, when he was called up to pitch in 10 games with the Blue Jays.
In 2012, his first full season in the major leagues, Alvarez pitched 187.1 innings in 31 games. He finished the season with a 4.85 ERA and a 9-14 record.
The Blue Jays traded Alvarez to the Miami Marlins in November, 2012. He suffered a shoulder injury in 2013 and he spent time on the DL, pitching in just 17 games. On September 29, 2013, he pitched a no-hitter against the Detroit Tigers. He finished the season with a 5-6 record and a 3.59 ERA.
In 2014, Alvarez pitched 187.0 innings in 30 games. He finished the season with a 12-7 record, 111 strikeouts to 33 walks, and a 2.65 ERA.
Alvarez played in just four games with the Marlins in 2015. He went on the DL with shoulder and elbow inflammation in April and he had shoulder surgery in late July that ended the season for him.
Alvarez signed a one year contract with the Oakland Athletics on December 28, 2015. He didn't play in the major leagues in 2016.
Alvarez became a free agent on October 7, 2016. He signed with the Philadelphia Phillies on August 22, 2017. He pitched in just three games with the Phillies in 2017. He pitched in the Mexican League in 2018.
Alvarez signed a minor league contract with the Washington Nationals on November 16 2018. After 24 games in the minors in 2019, the Nationals released him on July 1st. He signed with a Mexican League team on July 20th and played the rest of the season with them.
Alvarez played in the independent American Association league in 2020. He started in the Mexican League in 2021, but he was released on May 3rd. He later played in the Venezuelan Winter League and the Caribbean Series.
Alvarez signed with a Mexican League team for the 2022 season.
