Jacob Turner, pitcher, was a top player in high school and one of his coaches was Mike Matheny, the former manager of the St. Louis Cardinals. Turner was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in 2009 and he spent almost two years in their minor league system before being called up to pitch in three games with them in 2011.

In July, 2012, Turner was traded to the Miami Marlins. He pitched a total of 55.0 innings that year, finishing with a 4.42 ERA. He pitched 118.0 innings in 20 games with the Marlins in 2013. He finished the season with a 3-8 record with a 3.74 ERA.

Turner was designated for assignment on August 5, 2014. He was acquired by the Chicago Cubs three days later. He finished the 2014 season with a 6-11 record, 71 strikeouts to 33 walks, and a 6.13 ERA in 20 games with the Marlins and 8 games with the Cubs.

Turner spent the entire 2015 season on the DL with a flexor strain and bone bruise. He was claimed off waivers by the Chicago White Sox on October 27, 2015. He pitched primarily out of the bullpen in 2016, pitching 2 games as a starter and 16 games as a reliever. He finished the season with a 6.57 ERA in 24.2 innings.

Turner signed a minor league contract with the Washington Nationals on December 13, 2016. He was designated for assignment on July 18, 2017, after pitching in 18 games with the Nationals, primarily as a relief pitcher. He finished the season with 2 wins and 3 losses, 23 strikeouts to 15 walks, and a 5.08 ERA in 39.0 innings.

Turner elected free agency on October 16, 2017. He signed a minor league contract with the Miami Marlins on December 19th. After 4 games with the Marlins in 2018, he was released on June 2nd. Four days later, on June 6th, he signed with the Detroit Tigers. He played in just one game with the Tigers. He played most of the 2018 season in the minors.

Turner became a free agent on October 3, 2018. He played in the Korean Baseball Organization in 2019. He didn't play professional baseball in 2020 and 2021.
