Jonathan Schoop, second baseman for the Detroit Tigers, was signed by the Baltimore Orioles in 2008 as a free agent. He played in their minor league system from 2009 through 2013, finishing with a .268 batting average. In 2011, he won the Brooks Robinson Minor League player of the Year award as the best player in the Orioles' minor league system.

In 2013, Schoop was called up to the Orioles at the end of September, In five games, he batted .286 with 4 hits and 1 home run. He finished the 2014 season with 95 hits, 18 doubles, 16 home runs, 45 RBIs, 122 strikeouts to 13 walks, and a .209 batting average in 137 games. Schoop became a free agent on October 31, 2019. He signed with the Tigers on December 21st. He played in 44 games in 2020, and he finished the season with 45 hits, 4 doubles, 2 triples, 8 home runs, 23 RBIs, 39 strikeouts to 8 walks, and a .278 batting average. Schoop elected free agency on October 28, 2020. He re-signed with the Tigers on February 5, 2021.
