Lorenzo Cain, center fielder, was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2004. He played in the Brewers' minor league system from 2005 through most of 2010, playing in just 43 games with the Brewers in 2010.
In December, 2010, the Brewers traded Cain to the Kansas City Royals. He continued playing in the minor leagues through most of 2012, joining the Royals for 6 games in 2011 and 61 games in 2012. In February, 2012, he signed a one-year contract with the Royals.
Cain spent time on the DL in 2013, playing in just 115 games with the Royals. He batted .251 with 100 hits and 21 doubles. Defensively, he played 92 games in center field and 32 games in right field.
Cain had a strong 2014 season, finishing with 142 hits, 29 doubles, 53 RBIs, 28 stolen bases, and a .301 batting averagein 133 games. He performed even better in the postseason with 20 hits, 5 doubles, 8 RBIs, 2 stolen bases, and a .333 batting average in 60 at-bats in 15 games.
Cain had his best season so far in 2015, finishing with career highs in hits (169), doubles (34), home runs (16), stolen bases (28), RBIs (72), and batting average (.307) in 140 games. As a center fielder in 136 games, he made 389 putouts and 10 errors. In the postseason, he had 16 hits, including 2 doubles and a home run, and 11 RBIs in 62 at-bats in 16 games.
In 2016, Cain batted .287 with 114 hits, 19 doubles, and 56 RBIs in 103 games. Defensively, he played 72 games in center field and 29 games in right field. He made 257 putouts and 3 errors.
Cain had a strong season in 2017, batting .300 in 155 games. He finished the season with a career high 175 hits, 27 doubles, 15 home runs, 26 stolen bases, 49 RBIs, and 100 strikeouts to 54 walks. Defensively, as the Royals' center fielder in 151 games, he made 430 putouts and 7 errors.
Cain elected free agency on November 2, 2017. He returned to the Brewers on January 26, 2018.
Cain had a strong season with the Brewers in 2018, finishing with 166 hits, 25 doubles, 30 stolen bases, 38 RBIs, and a .308 batting average in 141 games. Defensively, as the Brewers' center fielder in 138 games, he made 304 putouts and 6 errors. In the postseason, he batted .244 with 11 hits and 1 RBI in 45 at-bats in 10 games.
Cain finished the 2019 season with 146 hits, 30 doubles, 18 stolen bases, 48 RBIs, 106 strikeouts to 50 walks, and a .260 batting average in 148 games. Defensively, as a center fielder in 143 games, he made 306 putouts and 2 errors. He won his first Gold Glove and his fourth Defensive Player of the Year award for his excellent defensive work in center field.
Cain played in just 5 games in 2020.
Cain spent time on the IL in 2021 with left quadriceps discomfort and with a right hamstring strain. He finished the season with 66 hits, 13 doubles, 36 RBIs, and a .257 batting average in 78 games. In the postseason, he had 3 hits and 1 RBI in 13 at-bats in 4 games.
The Brewers released Cain on June 21, 2022.
