Mike Aviles, infielder, was first drafted in 2003 by the Kansas City Royals. He played in the Royals' minor league system from 2003 through 2007.

In 2008, his first season with the Royals, Aviles batted a career high .325 with a career high 136 hits and 27 doubles in 102 games. The next year, he played in 36 games before having his season ended with Tommy John surgery. He returned for 110 games in 2010 and finished that season with 129 hits and a .304 batting average.

After 53 games with the Royals in 2011, they traded Aviles to the Boston Red Sox. That year, he had 73 hits and a .255 batting average in 53 games with the Royals and 38 games with the Red Sox.

Aviles had a strong 2012 season, with career highs in games played (136), doubles (28), and RBIs (60). He had 128 hits and a .250 batting average.

The Red Sox traded Aviles to the Toronto Blue Jays in October, 2012. Less than a month later, he was traded to the Cleveland Indians. In February, 2013, he signed a two-year, $6 million contract with the Indians. In 2013, he batted .252 with 91 hits in 124 games. He finished the 2014 season with 85 hits, 16 doubles, 14 stolen bases, and a .247 batting average in 113 games.

Aviles played in 98 games with the Indians in 2015. He missed part of the season while on the medical emergency list, spending the time with his daughter who was diagnosed with leukemia. He finished the season with 67 hits and a .231 batting average. Defensively, he played at second base (11 games), third base (28 games), shortstop (23 games), and all three outfield positions (40 games).

On December 18, 2015, Aviles signed a one-year, $2 million contract with the Detroit Tigers. He was traded to the Atlanta Braves on August 16, 2016. A day later, the Braves designated him for assignment. He was released on August 21st. He finished the 2016 season with a .210 batting average in 68 games with the Tigers. Defensively, he played all infield positions except for first base and all three outfield positions.

The Miami Marlins signed Aviles to a minor league contract on May 4, 2017. He split his time in 2017 between the Marlins and the minors. In 37 games with the Marlins, he batted .233.

Aviles elected free agency on November 2, 2017. He hasn't played professional baseball since 2017.

Personal Life

Aviles and his wife Jessy have twin daughters. He also has a daughter with his ex-wife.

Aviles' uncle, Ramon Aviles, played with the Boston Red Sox in 1977 and with the Philadelphia Phillies from 1979 through 1981.
