Nathan Eovaldi, starting pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, was first drafted in 2008 by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He played in the Dodgers' minor league system from 2008 through 2011, when he was called up to pitch in 10 games with the Dodgers.

The Dodgers traded Eovaldi to the Miami Marlins in July, 2011. That season, he had a 4.15 ERA in 10 games with the Dodgers and a 4.43 ERA in 12 games with the Marlins. In 2013, he pitched 106.1 innings in 18 games and he finished the season with a 4-6 record and a 3.39 ERA. He finished the 2014 season with a 6-14 record, 142 strikeouts to 43 walks, and a 4.37 ERA in 199.2 innings in 33 games.

Eovaldi was traded to the New York Yankees on December 19, 2014. In September, 2015, his season ended when he went on the DL with elbow inflammation. He finished the season with a 14-3 record, 121 strikeouts to 49 walks, and a 4.20 ERA in 154.1 innings in 27 games.

Eovaldi had a shortened season again in 2016 when he had Tommy John surgery in August. He finished the season with a 9-8 record, 97 strikeouts to 40 walks, and a 4.76 ERA in 124.2 innings in 24 games.

The Yankees designated Eovaldi for assignment on November 18, 2016, and released him on November 23, 2016. He signed a one-year, $2 million contract with the Tampa Bay Rays on February 13, 2017. He spent all of the 2017 season on the DL, recovering from Tommy John surgery.

The Rays traded Eovaldi to the Red Sox on July 25, 2018. He finished the season with 6 wins and 7 losses, 101 strikeouts to 20 walks, and a 3.81 ERA in 111.0 innings in 10 games with the Rays and 12 games with the Red Sox. In the postseason, he pitched 22.1 innings in 6 games and he gave up 15 hits, including one home run, and 4 earned runs. He had 2 wins and 1 loss and a 1.61 ERA. He struck out 16 batters and walked 3 batters.

Eovaldi became a free agent on October 29, 2018. He re-signed with the Red Sox on December 6th. He spent time on the DL in 2019 with an elbow issue. He finished the season with 2 wins and 1 loss, 70 strikeouts to 35 walks, and a 5.99 ERA in 67.2 innings in 23 games.

Eovaldi pitched in nine games in 2020. He finished the season with 4 wins and 2 losses, 52 strikeouts to 7 walks, and a 3.72 ERA in 48.1 innings.

Eovaldi pitched in 32 games in 2021. He finished the season with 11 wins and 9 losses, 195 strikeouts to 35 walks, and a 3.75 ERA in 182.1 innings. In the postseason, he gave up 19 hits, 2 home runs, and 11 runs in 20.2 innings in 5 games. He struck out 25 batters and walked 5.
