Peter Bourjos, outfielder, was first drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in 2005. He played in the Angels' minor league system from 2006 through most of 2010, playing in 51 games with the Angels in 2010.
In 2011, his first full season in the major leagues, Bourjos batted .271 with 136 hits, 26 doubles, and 22 stolen bases in 147 games. The following season, he was replaced in the outfield by Mike Trout and Bourjos became a bench player. He batted just .220 in 101 games in 2012.
Bourjos suffered from a wrist injury in 2013 that limited his playing time to 55 games. In November, 2013, the Angels traded him to the St. Louis Cardinals. He finished the 2014 season with 61 hits and a .231 batting average in 119 games. He had 2 at-bats in 5 games in the postseason and he had no hits.
Bourjos batted just .200 in 117 games with the Cardinals in 2015. Defensively, as a center fielder in 93 games, he made 125 putouts and 1 error.
Bourjos was claimed off waivers by the Philadelphia Phillies on December 2, 2015. He finished the 2016 season with 89 hits, 20 doubles, and a .251 batting average in 123 games. Defensively, as the Phillies' right fielder in 115 games, he made 185 putouts and 1 error.
Bourjos became a free agent on November 3, 2016. He signed a minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox on January 27, 2017. He was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays on March 28th. He finished the 2017 season with 42 hits and a .223 batting average in 100 games with the Rays. Defensively, he played 41 games in left field, 37 games in center field, and 14 games in right field.
Bourjos elected free agency on November 2, 2017. He signed a minor league contract with the Chicago Cubs on February 19, 2018. He was released on March 23rd. Two days later, on March 25th, he signed with the Atlanta Braves. The Braves released him on April 29th and then signed him to a minor league contract on May 1st.
Bourjos elected free agency on July 2, 2018. He signed a minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants on July 13th. He spent most of the 2018 season in the minors, playing in just 36 games with the Giants.
Bourjos became a free agent on November 2, 2018. He signed a minor league contract with the Angels on November 17th. He was released on May 10, 2019. He played in just 26 games in 2019.
Bourjos hasn't played professional baseball since 2019.
Personal Life
Bourjos' father Chris was an outfielder with the San Francisco Giants in 1980. After retiring as a player, he was a scout for the Toronto Blue Jays, the Milwaukee Brewers, the Baltimore Orioles, and the San Diego Padres.
