Sam Fuld, retired outfielder, was a top player at Stanford University when he was drafted in 2003 by the Chicago Cubs. He decided to stay at Stanford that year, but he signed with the Cubs the following year. He played in the Cubs' minor league system from 2005 through 2008, joining them for 14 games in 2007. Fuld played in 65 games with the Cubs in 2009 but he was back in the minor leagues the next year, playing in just 19 games with the Cubs in 2010.

In January, 2011, Fuld was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays. He finally had more playing time in 2011, playing in 105 games with the Rays that year. He finished the season with 74 hits, 18 doubles, 20 stolen bases, and a .240 batting average. The next year, he had injuries that limited his playing time to 44 games. In 2013, Fuld batted just .199 with 35 hits in 119 games.

Fuld signed with the Oakland Athletics in February, 2014, but two months later, on April 20, 2014, he was claimed off waivers by the Minnesota Twins. On July 31, 2014, he was traded back to the Athletics. He finished the 2014 season with 84 hits, 16 doubles, and a .239 batting average in 53 games with the Twins and 60 games with the Athletics.

In 2015, Fuld played in 120 games with the Athletics. He finished the season with a .197 batting average, 57 hits, and 16 doubles. Defensively, he played 57 games in left field, 43 games in center field, and 16 games in right field, and he had 191 putouts and 4 errors.

Fuld spent the entire 2016 season on the DL. He became a free agent on November 3, 2016. He didn't play in the major or minor leagues in 2017. However, he did play in the World Baseball Classic for Team Israel. He was the team's lead-off hitter and he played center field.

Fuld retired in November, 2017. He was hired as the general manager for the Philadelphia Phillies on December 22, 2020.
