Tony Gwynn, Jr. is the son of the great Hall of Famer, who passed away on June 16, 2014. The younger Gwynn was drafted out of high school in 2000 by the Atlanta Braves but he opted for college instead. Three years later, he was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers. He played in the Brewers' minor league system from 2003 through most of 2008, playing in just 130 games with the Brewers from 2006 through 2008.
The Brewers traded Gwynn to the San Diego Padres in May, 2009. That season, he batted .270 with 106 hits in 119 games with the Padres. The following year, he batted just .204 in 177 games.
In December, 2010, Gwynn signed a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. In his first season with the Dodgers, he batted .256 with 80 hits and 22 stolen bases in 136 games. He played in 103 games with the Dodgers in 2012 before they designated him for assignment in August. Last year, he played in the minor leagues. In December, 2013, he signed a minor league contract with the Phillies.
On July 21, 2014, a month after his father passed away, Gwynn was designated for assignment. He finished the 2014 season with just 16 hits in 80 games.
Gwynn signed with the Washington Nationals on March 3, 2015. He spent the entire 2015 season in the minors.
Gwynn became a free agent on November 6, 2015. He hasn't played professional baseball since 2015.
