Wei-Yin Chen, starting pitcher for the Miami Marlins, played in Japan from 2004 through 2011. In 2009, he led the Japanese Central League in ERA. After the 2011 season, he signed with the Baltimore Orioles.

In 2012, Chen pitched 192.2 innings in 32 games with the Orioles. He finished the season with a 12-11 record and a 4.02 ERA. He spent time on the DL in 2013, playing in 23 games with the Orioles. He finished the season with a 4.07 ERA and a 7-7 record.

Chen had a strong 2014 season, finishing with a 16-6 record, 136 strikeouts to 35 walks, and a 3.54 ERA in 185.2 innings in 31 games. He did not do well, however, in the postseason, pitching 9.0 innings in two games and giving up 14 hits, 7 runs, and 2 home runs to finish with a 7.00 ERA.

In 2015, Chen had a career low ERA of 3.34. He finished the season with an 11-8 record and 153 strikeouts to 41 walks in 191.1 innings in 31 games.

Chen signed a five-year, $80 million contract with the Marlins on January 19, 2016. He finished the 2016 season with a 4.96 ERA, 5 wins to 5 losses, and 100 strikeouts to 24 walks in 123.1 innings in 22 games.

Chen spent most of the 2017 season on the DL, pitching in just 9 games with the Marlins. He finished the season with 2 wins and 1 loss and a 3.82 ERA in 33.0 innings.
