Yordano Ventura, starting pitcher, signed with the Kansas City Royals in 2008. He pitched in their minor league system from 2009 through most of 2013, finishing with a 20-23 record and a 3.47 ERA.

In 2013, Ventura pitched in just 3 games with the Royals. He finished the 2014 season with a 14-10 record, 159 strikeouts to 69 walks, and a 3.20 ERA in 183.0 innings in 31 games. In the postseason, he gave up 23 hits, 9 runs, and 3 home runs in 25.1 innings in 5 games.

Ventura pitched in 28 games with the Royals in 2015. He finished the season with a 13-8 record, 156 strikeouts to 58 walks, and a 4.08 ERA in 163.1 innings.
