A.J. Griffin, starting pitcher, was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in 2010. He pitched in their minor league system from 2010 through part of 2012. During his time in the minors, he had a 3.15 ERA with a 19-11 record and 280 strikeouts to 57 walks in 289.0 innings in 68 games.

Griffin joined the Athletics in 2012, pitching 82.1 innings in 15 games. He had a 7-1 record and a 3.06 ERA. He was part of the starting rotation in 2013, pitching in 32 games. He finished the season with a 14-10 record, 171 strikeouts to 54 walks, and a 3.83 ERA in 200.0 innings.

Griffin started the 2014 season on the DL. Shortly into the season, it was determined that he needed Tommy John surgery and he ended up missing the entire season. He also missed the 2015 season, first with recovery from the 2014 surgery and then with a shoulder injury. He played in just four games in the minors in 2015.

Griffin signed a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers on December 21, 2015. He played in 23 games with the Rangers in 2016 and he had a 5.07 ERA. He finished the season with 7 wins to 4 losses and 107 strikeouts to 46 walks.

Griffin finished the 2017 season with a 5.94 ERA in 15 games as a starter and 3 games as a relief pitcher. He had 6 wins and 6 losses and 61 strikeouts to 28 walks in 77.1 innings.

Griffin became a free agent on December 1, 2017. He signed with the New York Mets on February 26, 2018. After pitching two games in the minors, he was released on April 18th. He hasn't played professional baseball since 2018.
