Carson Smith, relief pitcher, was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in 2011. He pitched in their minor league system from 2012 through 2014, finishing with a 2.55 ERA, 7-7 record, 40 saves, and 193 strikeouts to 58 walks in 155.0 innings in 132 games.

Smith first joined the Mariners for nine games in 2014. He became the Mariners' closer in June, 2015. He finished the 2015 season with a 2-5 record, 13 saves, 92 strikeouts to 22 walks, and a 2.31 ERA in 70.0 innings in 70 games.

Smith was traded to the Red Sox on December 7, 2015. He missed most of the 2016 season due to Tommy John surgery. He played in three games with the Red Sox prior to his surgery.

Smith spent time on the DL in 2017, recovering from his surgery. He pitched just 6.2 innings in 8 games with the Red Sox. In the postseason, he pitched 1.1 innings in 2 games and he gave up 2 hits.

After pitching in 18 games with the Red Sox in 2018, Smith had season ending shoulder surgery on June 13th. Prior to going on the DL, he had a 3.77 ERA in 14.1 innings.

The Red Sox released Smith on June 17, 2019. He was on the DL prior to being released. He hasn't played professional baseball since 2018.
