Dan Johnson, infielder, was first drafted in 2001 by the Oakland Athletics. He played in the Athletics' minor league system from 2001 through 2004.

Johnson joined the Athletics in 2005, playing in 109 games with them that season. He had a good first season in the major leagues, batting .275 with career highs in hits (103) and doubles (21). He also had 15 home runs and 58 RBIs. As a first baseman, he proved to be a good fielder, finishing the 2005 season with a .994 fielding percentage.

Although Johnson's offensive numbers decreased in 2006 and 2007, he continued to show his fielding skills at first base. He finished the 2006 season with a .995 fielding percentage and a .996 the following season. Offensively, he batted .234 with 67 hits in 91 games in 2006. He had a better season offensively in 2007, batting .236 with 20 doubles and career highs in home runs with 18 and in RBIs with 62.

Johnson played in just one game with the Athletics in 2008 before being claimed off waivers by the Tampa Bay Rays on April 18th. He spent most of the season in the minor leagues, playing in just 10 games with the Rays. He spent the 2009 season playing in Japan.

In January, 2010, Johnson signed again with the Rays. Two years later, he signed with the Chicago White Sox but he stayed with them for just one season. In January, 2013, he signed with the New York Yankees. After spending several months in the Yankees' minor league system, he was released on August 29, 2013. A day later, he signed with the Baltimore Orioles. He signed with his sixth team, the Toronto Blue Jays, in November, 2013. From 2010 through 2014, he played mostly in the minor leagues, never playing in more than 40 games in the majors in any one season.

From December, 2014, through May 4, 2015, Johnson was with three teams. He signed with the Astros in December, 2014, he was acquired by the Cincinnati Reds on March 26, 2015, released by the Reds on April 23rd, and signed by the St. Louis Cardinals, his ninth team in eight years, on May 4, 2015.

Johnson played in just 12 games with the Cardinals in 2015. He spent the rest of the season in the minors.

Johnson signed once again with the Rays on March 5, 2016. He was released on March 30th. He signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers on August 23rd, but he didn't play with them in 2016.

Johnson became a free agent on November 7, 2016. He played in the Mexican League from 2016 through 2018. He hasn't played professional baseball since 2018.
