David Hale, relief pitcher, was first drafted by the Atlanta Braves while he was at Princeton. He pitched in the Braves' minor league system from 2009 through 2013. During that time, he had a 25-28 record and 368 strikeouts to 182 walks in 471.0 innings in 112 games.
Hale joined the Braves for two games in 2010. The following season, he pitched in 45 games both as a starting pitcher and as a relief pitcher. He finished the 2014 season with a 4-5 record and a 3.30 ERA in 87.1 innings.
The Braves traded Hale to the Colorado Rockies on January 30, 2015. He pitched in 17 games with the Rockies in 2015 and he had a 5-5 record, 61 strikeouts to 20 walks, and a 6.09 ERA in 78.1 innings. He also played in 12 games in the minor leagues.
Hale spent most of the 2016 season in the minors, pitching just 2.0 innings in 2 games with the Rockies. He became a free agent on November 7, 2016.
Hale signed a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 17, 2017. He spent the 2017 season in the minors.
Hale signed a minor league contract with the New York Yankees on January 28, 2018. He was claimed off waivers by the Minnesota Twins on April 26th. Four days later, he elected free agency and signed a new minor league contract with the Yankees on May 1st. He spent most of the 2018 season in the minors, pitching in just 1 game with the Twins and 3 games with the Yankees.
Hale elected free agency on July 10, 2018. He re-signed with the Yankees on a minor league contract on February 1, 2019. He spent time on the DL in 2019 with a lumbar spine strain. He finished the season with 3 wins and no losses, 2 saves, 23 strikeouts to 7 walks, and a 3.11 ERA in 37.2 innings in 20 games. He didn't play in the postseason.
Hale became a free agent on October 21, 2019. He rejoined the Yankees on a minor league contract on February 3, 2020. The Yankees traded him to the Philadelphia Phillies on August 21, 2020. He finished the 2020 season with 14 strikeouts to 4 walks, 1 save, and a 3.71 ERA in 17.0 innings in 5 games with the Yankees and 6 games with the Phillies.
Hale pitched in just 17 games with the Phillies in 2021. He had a 6.41 ERA in 26.2 innings. He elected free agency on June 27, 2021.
