Deven Marrero, infielder for the Boston Red Sox, was a top player at Arizona State University. In 2011, he was named the Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year and he batted .313. He was drafted in 2009 by the Cincinnati Reds but he opted to continue at ASU. Three years later, he was drafted by the Red Sox.

Marrero played in Boston's minor league system from 2012 through 2014. During that time, he had 285 hits, 67 stolen bases, 109 RBIs, and 218 strikeouts to 132 walks in 286 games. Defensively, as a shortstop, he made 736 assists, 153 double plays, 384 putouts, and 27 errors in 249 games.

Marrero played in just 25 games with the Red Sox in 2015. He hit his first major league home run on September 28th. He spent most of the 2016 season in the minors, playing in just 13 games with the Red Sox.
