Jarrod Parker, retired starting pitcher, was originally drafted out of high school by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2007. He played in the Diamondbacks' minor league system in 2008 and 2009. In October, 2009, he had Tommy John surgery and he didn't play at all in 2010. The next season, he returned to the minors, playing in just one game in 2011 with the Diamondbacks.
Parker was traded to the Oakland Athletics in December, 2011. In 2012, his first full season in the major leagues, he pitched in 29 games for Oakland. He finished the season with a 3.47 ERA, a 13-8 record, and 140 strikeouts to 63 walks in 181.1 innings. In 2013, his numbers were similar, with a 3.97 ERA, a 12-8 record, and 134 strikeouts to 63 walks in 197.0 innings in 32 games.
In March, 2014, Parker had his second Tommy John surgery. As a result, he missed the entire 2014 season. He returned strong in 2015, pitching in 32 games with the Athletics. He finished the season with a 12-8 record, 134 strikeouts to 63 walks, and a 3.97 ERA in 197.0 innings.
Parker spent the entire 2016 season on the DL. He became a free agent on October 7, 2016. He didn't play professional baseball in 2017.
Parker retired in February, 2018.
