Jimmy Nelson, pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, was originally drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in 2007 but he opted instead to go to the University of Alabama. Three years later, he was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers.

Nelson pitched in the Brewers' minor league system from 2010 through part of 2014. During that time, he had a 3.12 ERA, a 36-29 win-loss record, and 549 strikeouts to 237 walks in 563.1 innings in 105 games. In 2014, he was named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Year.

Nelson pitched in four games with the Brewers in 2013. The following season, he had a 2-9 record with a 4.93 ERA in 69.1 innings in 14 games with the Brewers.

Nelson had his first full season in the major leagues in 2015, pitching in 30 games for the Brewers. He finished the season with an 11-13 record, 148 strikeouts to 65 walks, and a 4.11 ERA in 177.1 innings.

In 2016, Nelson had a 4.62 ERA in 32 games. He finished the season with 8 wins to 16 losses and 140 strikeouts to 86 walks in 179.1 innings.

Nelson finished the 2017 season with 12 wins and 6 losses, 199 strikeouts to 48 walks, and a 3.49 ERA in 175.1 innings in 29 games.

Nelson spent the 2018 season on the DL with right shoulder inflammation. He was again on the DL in 2019, once more with a right shoulder injury and with right elbow effusion. He pitched just 22.0 innings in 10 games and he had a 6.95 ERA. He didn't pitch in the postseason.

Nelson became a free agent on December 2, 2019. He signed with the Dodgers on January 8, 2020. He had shoulder surgery in July, 2020, and he missed the entire shortened season.

Nelson spent time on the IL again in 2021. He finished the season with 1 win and 2 losses, 44 strikeouts to 13 walks, and a 1.86 ERA in 29.0 innings in 28 games. He didn't play in the postseason.

Nelson became a free agent on November 3, 2021. He signed again with the Dodgers on March 17, 2022.
