Joe Panik, infielder, was a star player at St. John's University before being drafted by the San Francisco Giants in 2011. He played in the Giants' minor league system from 2011 through part of 2014. As a minor leaguer, he batted .296 with 479 hits, 78 doubles, 232 RBIs, and 180 strikeouts to 171 walks in 410 games. As a shortstop, he made 723 assists, 144 double plays, 330 putouts, and 33 errors. He also played at second base, finishing with 467 assists, 124 double plays, 344 putouts, and 10 errors in 178 games.
Panik joined the Giants in 2014, playing in 73 games with them. He had 82 hits and a .305 batting average. The Giants released Panik on August 7, 2019. He signed with the New York Mets two days later. He finished the 2019 season with 107 hits, 21 doubles, 39 RBIs, 47 strikeouts to 43 walks, and a .244 batting average in 103 games with the Giants and 39 games with the Mets. Defensively, as a second baseman in 118 games, he made 261 assists, 59 double plays, 179 putouts, and 5 errors.
Panik became a free agent on October 31, 2019. He signed a minor league contract with the Toronto Blue Jays on January 20, 2020. He played in 41 games in 2020, and he finished the season with 27 hits and a .225 batting average. Defensively, he played 18 games at second base, 12 games at third base, and 14 games at shortstop. In the postseason, he had 1 hit in 6 at-bats in 2 games.
Panik elected free agency on October 28, 2020. He signed a minor league contract with the Toronto Blue Jays on February 12, 2021. He was traded to the Miami Marlins on June 29th. He finished the 2021 season with 49 hits and a .208 batting average in 42 games with the Blue Jays and 53 games with the Marlins.
