Joey Butler, outfielder, was first drafted in 2008 by the Texas Rangers. He played in the Rangers' minor league system from 2008 through 2013, joining the team for just eight games in 2013.

Butler was claimed off waivers by the St. Louis Cardinals in October, 2013. After just six games with the Cardinals in 2014, he was released by the team on May 23rd. His contract was purchased on the same day by the Orix Buffaloes of Japan.

As a player in the US minor leagues from 2008 through May, 2014, Butler had 802 hits, 153 doubles, 76 home runs, 375 RBIs, and 737 strikeouts to 350 walks in 741 games. Defensively, he played 563 games in right field and he made 991 putouts and 24 errors.

Butler signed with the Tampa Bay Rays on January 3, 2015. He had his first major league home run on May 4, 2015. He finished the 2015 season with 71 hits, 12 doubles, 8 home runs, 30 RBIs, and a .276 batting average in 88 games. Defensively, he played 30 games in left field and 6 games in right field.

The Rays designated Butler for assignment on December 3, 2015. He was claimed off waivers by the Cleveland Indians on December 7th.

Butler was designated for assignment by the Indians on July 31, 2016. He spent the entire 2016 season in the minors.

Butler became a free agent on October 3, 2016. He signed with the Washington Nationals on March 19, 2017. He spent the 2017 season on the DL and in the minors.

Butler elected free agency on November 6, 2017. He hasn't played professional baseball since 2017.
