Jorge Soler, outfielder for the Kansas City Royals, defected from Cuba in 2011. The year prior to that, he played on the Cuban national team. He signed a nine-year, $30 million contract with the Chicago Cubs on June 11, 2012.

Soler played in the Cubs' minor league system from 2012 through 2014. During that time, he had 167 hits, 117 RBIs, and 105 strikeouts to 66 walks in 151 games. As a right fielder, the only position he played defensively, he made 223 putouts and 6 errors in 132 games.

In 2014, Soler joined the Cubs for 24 games. He batted .292 with 26 hits. He played in 101 games in 2015, finishing with 96 hits, 18 doubles, 47 RBIs, and a .262 batting average.
