Matt Shoemaker, starting pitcher, was signed by the Los Angeles Angels in 2008. He pitched in the Angels' minor league system from 2008 through 2013, joining the team for just one game in 2013. In 134 games in the minors, he pitched 761.0 innings and he had a 49-40 record with 624 strikeouts to 192 walks.

In 2014, Shoemaker was both a starting pitcher and a relief pitcher with the Angels. He pitched 136.0 innings in 27 games and he had a 16-4 record and 3.04 ERA. He came in second in the American League Rookie of the Year voting in 2014.

Shoemaker pitched in 25 games with the Angels in 2015. He finished the season with a 7-10 record, 116 strikeouts to 35 walks, and a 4.46 ERA in 135.1 innings.

Shoemaker finished the 2016 season with a 3.88 ERA in 27 games. He had 9 wins to 13 losses and 143 strikeouts to 30 walks in 160.0 innings.

Shoemaker spent part of the 2017 season on the DL. He finished the season with 6 wins and 3 losses, 69 strikeouts to 28 walks, and a 4.52 ERA in 14 games.

Shoemaker became a free agent on November 30, 2018. He signed with the Toronto Blue Jays a month later, on December 28th. He had ACL surgery in April, 2019, and he missed most of the season. He pitched just 28.2 innings in 5 games and he had 3 wins and no losses, 24 strikeouts to 9 walks, and a 1.57 ERA.

Shoemaker pitched in six games in 2020. He finished the season with no wins and 1 loss, 26 strikeouts to 9 walks, and a 4.71 ERA in 28.2 innings.

Shoemaker elected free agency on October 28, 2020. He signed with the Minnesota Twins on February 18, 2021. The Twins released him on August 2, 2021. He signed a minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants on August 7th. He finished the season with 3 wins and 8 losses, 40 strikeouts to 27 walks, and a 8.06 ERA in 60.1 innings in 16 games with the Twins. He played only in the minors with the Giants.

Shoemaker became a free agent on November 7, 2021.
