Mike Montgomery, pitcher for the Chicago Cubs, was first drafted by the Kansas City Royals in 2008. After playing in the Royals' minor league system for five seasons, he was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays in December, 2012, He continued in the Rays' minor league system through 2014.

The Rays traded Montgomery to the Seattle Mariners on March 31, 2015.
