Rob Brantly, catcher for the Toronto Blue Jays, was first drafted by the Washington Nationals in 2008 but he opted instead for college. Two years later, when the Detroit Tigers drafted him, he signed with them. He played in the Tigers' minor league system from 2010 until July, 2012, when they traded him to the Miami Marlins.

Brantly played in 31 games with the Marlins in 2012. The following season, he played in 67 games and he batted .211 with 47 hits during that time.

Brantly spent all of the 2014 season in the minor leagues. As a minor leaguer from 2010 through 2014, he had 380 hits, 164 RBIs, 198 strikeouts to 95 walks, and a .269 batting average in 383 games. Defensively, as a catcher, he made 258 assists, 2,425 putouts, and 33 errors in 341 games. He caught players trying to steal 31% of the time and he had a .988 fielding percentage.

The Chicago White Sox claimed Brantly off waivers on December 8, 2014. He played in just 14 games with the White Sox in 2015, spending most of the season in the minors.

Brantly was claimed off waivers by the Seattle Mariners on March 12, 2016. He was designated for assignment on April 3, 2016. He spent the entire 2016 season in the minors.

Brantly became a free agent on November 7, 2016. He signed a minor league contract with the Cincinnati Reds on December 3, 2016. He was released on June 29, 2017.

Brantly returned to the White Sox on a minor league contract on June 29, 2017. He spent most of the 2017 season in the minors, playing in just 13 games with the White Sox.

Brantly elected free agency on October 6, 2017. He signed a minor league contract with the Atlanta Braves on December 4, 2017. He was released on July 15, 2018. He signed a minor league contract with the Cleveland Indians on July 21st. He spent the 2018 season in the minor leagues.

Brantly became a free agent on November 2, 2018. He signed a minor league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies on December 21, 2018. He spent most of the 2019 season in the minors, playing in just one game with the Phillies.

Brantly became a free agent again on September 30, 2019. He signed a minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants on January 18, 2020. He was traded to the New York Yankees on August 26, 2020. He played in just one game with the Giants in 2020.

Brantly spent most of the 2021 season in the minors, playing in just 6 games with the Yankees. After the season ended, he played in the Dominican Winter League.

Brantly became a free agent on November 10, 2022. He signed a minor league contract with the Blue Jays on January 6, 2023.
