Robbie Erlin, pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, was originally drafted by the Texas Rangers in 2009. After two and a half years in the Rangers' minor league system, they traded him to the San Diego Padres on July 31, 2011. He continued to play in the minors through 2012.

Erlin split his time in 2013 and 2014 between the minor leagues and the Padres. As a minor leaguer from 2009 through 2014, he pitched 472.1 innings in 104 games. He had 28 wins to 15 losses, 506 strikeouts to 96 walks, and a 3.30 ERA.

Erlin joined the Padres for 11 games in 2013. He pitched 54.2 innings and he had a 3-3 record and a 4.12 ERA. He had similar numbers in 2014, pitching 61.1 innings in 13 games and having a 4-5 record and a 4.99 ERA.

Erlin spent most of the 2015 season in the minors, pitching just 17.0 innings in 3 games with the Padres.

Erlin had Tommy John surgery in May, 2016. He pitched just 15.2 innings in 3 games with the Padres prior to the surgery. He spent the 2017 season on the DL.

Erlin pitched in 39 games in 2018. He finished the season with 4 wins and 7 losses, 88 strikeouts to 12 walks, and a 4.21 ERA in 109.0 innings.

Erlin finished the 2019 season with no wins and 1 loss, 52 strikeouts to 15 walks, and a 5.37 ERA in 55.1 innings in 37 games. He also pitched 19.0 innings in 13 games in the minors.

Erlin became a free agent on October 31, 2019. He signed a minor league contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates on January 31, 2019. The Atlanta Braves claimed him off waivers on August 7, 2020, and they released him a month later, on September 14th. He finished the 2020 season with an 8.10 ERA in 2 games with the Pirates and 7 games with the Braves.

Erlin played in Japan in 2021.

Erlin signed a minor league contract with the Dodgers on February 22, 2022.
