Robbie Ray, starting pitcher for the Seattle Mariners, was first drafted by the Washington Nationals in 2010. He pitched in the Nationals' minor league system from 2010 through 2013. He was traded to the Detroit Tigers in December, 2013, and he continued in the minor leagues through most of 2014. As a minor league pitcher, he had a 24-26 record and 418 strikeouts to 193 walks in 437.2 innings in 90 games.
In 2014, Ray pitched 28.2 innings in 9 games with the Tigers. He had a 1-4 record and an 8.16 ERA during that time.
Ray was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks in December, 2014. He pitched in 23 games in 2015 and he finished with a 5-12 record, 119 strikeouts to 49 walks, and a 3.52 ERA in 127.2 innings.
In 2016, Ray had a 4.90 ERA in 32 games. He finished the season with 8 wins to 15 losses and 218 strikeouts to 71 walks in 174.1 innings.
