Tsuyoshi Wada, Starting Pitcher

Tsuyoshi Wada, starting pitcher, started playing baseball as a first grader in Japan. He played professionally in Japan from 2003 through 2011. In 2003, he was named the Japanese Pacific League Rookie of the Year.

Wada was first signed by a US team, the Baltimore Orioles, in December, 2011. He missed most of the 2012 season after having Tommy John surgery in May, 2012. He signed with the Chicago Cubs in January, 2014.

Wada played in the US minor leagues from 2012 through part of 2014. During that time, he had a 15-13 record with 201 strikeouts to 67 walks in 219.0 innings in 39 games. He joined the Cubs for 13 games in 2014. He finished the season with a 4-4 record and a 3.25 ERA in 69.1 innings.

Wada pitched in 8 games with the Cubs in 2015. He finished the season with a 1-1 record, 31 strikeouts to 11 walks, and a 3.62 ERA in 32.1 innings. He also pitched in 16 games in the minors. The Cubs released him on October 19, 2015.

Wada played in Japan from 2016 through 2021.
