Alen Hanson, infielder for the Chicago White Sox, was signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2009. He played in the Pirates' minor league system from 2010 through 2015. In 609 games, he had 682 hits, 121 doubles, 169 stolen bases, 284 RBIs, 453 strikeouts to 208 walks, and a .284 batting average. Defensively, he played 184 games at second base, 28 games at third base, and 370 games at shortstop.

Hanson spent most of the 2016 season in the minors, playing in just 27 games with the Pirates.

The Pirates designated Hanson for assignment on June 2, 2017. He was claimed off waivers by the White Sox on June 9th.
