Andrew Chafin, relief pitcher for the Arizona Diamondbacks, was a top player at Kent State University. In 2009, he had a 1.26 ERA and he was named the Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year. The following year he had Tommy John surgery. After recovering from his surgery, he was drafted by the Diamondbacks in 2011.

Chafin pitched in the Diamondbacks' minor league system from 2011 through most of 2014. In 429.1 innings in 85 games, he had a 28-21 win-loss record, 386 strikeouts to 182 walks, and a 3.98 ERA.

Chafin joined the Diamondbacks for three games in 2014. In 14.0 innings, he had a 3.86 ERA. He pitched full-time from the Diamondbacks' bullpen in 2015, finishing with a 5-1 record, 2 saves, 58 strikeouts to 30 walks, and a 2.76 ERA in 75.0 innings in 66 games.

In 2016, Chafin had a 6.75 ERA in 32 games with the Diamondbacks. He finished the season with no wins to 1 loss and 28 strikeouts to 11 walks in 22.2 innings.

Chafin finished the 2017 season with 1 win and no losses, 61 strikeouts to 21 walks, and a 3.51 ERA in 51.1 innings in 71 games. In the postseason, he pitched 0.2 innings in 3 games and he gave up 2 hits and 1 run.

Chafin pitched in 77 games in 2018. He had 1 win and 6 losses, 53 strikeouts to 25 walks, and a 3.10 ERA in 49.1 innings.

Chafin finished the 2019 season with 2 wins and 2 losses, 68 strikeouts to 18 walks, and a 3.76 ERA in 52.2 innings in 77 games.

The Diamondbacks traded Chafin to the Chicago Cubs on August 31, 2020. He finished the season with 1 win and 2 losses and a 6.52 ERA in 9.2 innings in 11 games with the Diamondbacks and 4 games with the Cubs. In the postseason, he pitched 0.1 innings in 1 game and he gave up no hits.

The Cubs traded Chafin to the Oakland Athletics on July 26, 2021. He finished the 2021 seaosn with 2 wins and 4 losses, 5 saves, 64 strikeouts to 19 walks, and a 1.83 ERA in 68.2 innings in 43 games with the Cubs and 28 games with Oakland.

Chafin became a free agent on November 4, 2021. He signed with the Detroit Tigers on March 17, 2022.

Chafin became a free agent on November 6, 2022. He returned to his first team, the Diamondbacks, on February 15, 2023.
