Buck Farmer, relief pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds, was a top baseball player in high school. In 2008, he was named the Connie Mack World Series MVP and the World Wood Bat Championship MVP. The following year, he was drafted by the Atlanta Braves but he didn't sign with them. Three years later, while at Georgia Tech, he was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers but again, he didn't sign, opting instead to continue his college education.

In 2013, Farmer was drafted by the Detroit Tigers. He played in the Tigers' minor league system from 2013 through part of 2015. In 49 games as a starting pitcher and one game as a reliever, he pitched 241.2 innings and he had 19 wins to 12 losses and he struck out 238 batters and walked 64.

Farmer pitched in four games with the Tigers in 2014, splitting his time between the starting rotation (2 games) and the bullpen (2 games). In 9.1 innings, he gave up 12 hits, including 2 home runs, and 12 runs and he had an ERA of 11.57. He spent most of the season in the minors, pitching 123.0 innings in 22 games.

Farmer spent the 2015 season in the minors (16 games) and with the Tigers (5 games as a starter, 9 games as a relief pitcher). In his time with the Tigers, he gave up 53 hits, including 10 home runs and 33 earned runs. He had a 7.36 ERA and he struck out 24 batters and walked 17.

Farmer spent most of the 2016 season in the minors. In 14 games with the Tigers, he pitched 29.1 innings and he had a 4.60 ERA.

Farmer spent much of the 2017 season in the minors. In 11 games with the Tigers, he had 5 wins and 5 losses, 49 strikeouts to 20 walks, and a 6.75 ERA in 48.0 innings.

Farmer finished the 2018 season with 3 wins and 4 losses, 57 strikeouts to 41 walks, and a 4.15 ERA in 69.1 innings in 66 games.

Farmer pitched in 73 games with the Tigers in 2019. He finished the season with a 6-6 record, 73 strikeouts to 24 walks, and a 3.72 ERA in 73 games.

Farmer pitched in 23 games in 2020. He finished the season with 1 win and no losses and a 3.80 ERA in 21.1 innings.

The Tigers released Farmer on August 17, 2021. Four days later, he signed a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers. He finished the 2021 season with a 6.37 ERA in 35.1 innings in 36 games with the Tigers. He played only in the minors with the Rangers.

Farmer became a free agent on November 7, 2021. He signed a minor league contract with the Reds on March 16, 2022.
