Derek Law, relief pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds, was first drafted by the Texas Rangers in 2009 but he didn't sign with them. Two years later, he was drafted by the San Francisco Giants. He pitched in the Giants' minor league system from 2011 through 2015. In 193.2 innings in 148 games, he had 12 wins to 6 losses, 46 saves, and 249 strikeouts to 59 walks.

Law pitched in 61 games with the Giants in 2016. He finished the season with a 2.13 ERA, 4 wins to 2 losses, 1 save, and 50 strikeouts to 9 walks in 55.0 innings. In the postseason, he pitched 2.1 innings in 3 games and he gave up 1 hit and 1 run.

Law finished the 2017 season with 4 wins and 1 loss, 4 saves, 35 strikeouts to 14 walks, and a 5.06 ERA in 37.1 innings in 41 games.

Law spent most of the 2018 season in the minors, pitching just 13.1 innings in 7 games with the Giants.

The Giants traded Law to the Toronto Blue Jays on April 2, 2019. He finished the 2019 season with 1 win and 2 losses, 5 saves, 67 strikeouts to 40 walks, and a 4.90 ERA in 60.2 innings in 58 games with Toronto.

Law became a free agent on December 2, 2019. He signed a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers on January 30, 2020. He didn't play professional baseball in 2020.

Law elected free agency on November 2, 2020. He signed a minor league contract with the Minnesota Twins on November 12th. He spent time on the IL in 2021 with a right shoulder impingement. He pitched just 15.0 innings in 9 games with the Twins.

Law became a free agent on October 4, 2021. He signed a minor league contract with the Detroit Tigers on April 9, 2022. He elected free agency again on August 7th. A week later, on August 14th, he signed a minor league contract with the Reds.
